Spend the morning swimming in a cave and the afternoon jumping of waterfalls in Toledo
To begin your unforgettable cave experience you will start your journey at around 8.30am. After a forty five minute drive you will arrive at the Mayan community of Blue Creek Village, where you will leave your vehicle behind and experience a beautiful 20 minute walk along the Blue Creek River, passing through jungle and crossing a river bed, so be on the lookout for iguanas, and a variety of birds. Blue Creek Cave, formed around 200 million years ago, has a river emerging from the mouth of the cave. And this is where you and your guide will jump in to the cool crystal clear water and swim/float inside the cave. You will discover breath taking limestone formations on your journey intothe cave and on your float back out. Blue Creek Cave is a truly unforgettable experience!!!
After Blue Creek Cave you will enjoy a traditional Mayan lunch at Blue Creek Village prepared by a Mayan family. After this tasty and unforgettable lunch you will continue your journey past the village of Santa Cruz, where after a short walk you will find one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Belize, the Rio Blanco Waterfalls. The jungle-surrounded trail is only a mile long from the road and at the end you will find the beauty of Rio Blanco Waterfalls Park. Here the Rio Blanco flows through wide, shallow pools and gentlecascades formed of smooth slabs of mudstone and sandstone, before pouring over a 15 foot ledge into a deep pool. A smooth stone ledge at the end of the trail rises steeply about 20 feet above the pool. This is a favorite jumping spot for local thrill seekers.
Surrounding limestone boulders allow easy exploration above the pool, or if you prefer you can cool off in the crystal clear waters. Trees and flowering vegetation encircle the cliffs providing cool shade. There are many species of birds and butterflies flying around and your guide will be on the lookout for the best displays to point out to you.
So come and discover the real beauty of Toledo.
